Exum Senior Guide and Director Mark Newcomb Named to Teton County Planning Commission
Visitors who climb the Grand Teton with Exum, upon looking southward from the summit, will notice that empty open space on the valley floor merges with subdivisions and developments, including one of North America’s premier resorts, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR). The pattern, scale and density of this development impacts Teton County’s scenic beauty as well as its populations of wildlife and overall attractiveness as a unique location for tourists to come, relax, recreate and experience the splendor of the rocky mountains. A life-long resident of this area, Exum Senior Guide and Director, Mark Newcomb has volunteered to serve on Teton County’s planning commission.
The commission is currently in the midst of developing a new comprehensive plan for future development in Teton County. The challenge of balancing the protection of the County’s open spaces, wildlife habitat and small town culture against property owners’ rights to develop or divide their land are manifested in the uneven development pattern exhibited in the valley. A new comprehensive plan will guide development, limiting its impacts and preserving that which makes our valley and surrounding mountains a special place to live and visit.
