Matt grew up near Salt Lake City, Utah where his dad taught him to ski before he could walk. His passion for the mountains soon led him to climbing, and eventually guiding in 2012. He enjoys all aspects of climbing. From leading teams up Denali in the spring to climbing desert towers in southern Utah in the autumn and ice climbing in the winter. He is an AIARE avalanche instructor and has completed his apprentice level guide training in rock, alpine and ski with the AMGA.
