Joel has become well rounded through an ongoing apprenticeship in the greater ranges; including the Himalaya, Alaska, Andes, Cascades, Dolomites, Rockies, and Sierras. The result being recent new routes in alpine style such as; VI 5.11 A2 Rise of the Machines, Southwest Face Poincenot, Fitz Roy Massif, Argentina. VI 80deg. M7 WI5+ Night Terror, Lobuche East, Nepal. Offering guided ascents of the Grand Traverse, Gannett Peak, Cirque of the Towers, and One Day Grand Teton with Exum. Additionally, outside the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, has guided summits of Denali, Aconcagua, Rainier, Shuksan, Stuart, Dragontail and many more. Studied Ecology and traditional climbing while at the University of Montana, Missoula. Has a life long commitment to learning about and teaching others how to safely enjoy climbing in the mountains. First teaching the art to Neil, the younger of the two Kauffman brothers, and later climbing extensively together on the steep alpine granite towers and needles of Patagonia.
