I met Jed Williamson 18 years ago, on my second day of work at Exum. I tagged along on a Cube Point climb with Jed in the lead and 13 or so teenagers, and a few other guides, following behind. I laughed a lot that day, and so did the teens as Jed thoroughly entertained the group while skillfully guiding.

Jed stopped guiding many years ago, however he has since filled many roles at Exum. He retired from our Board of directors last year at 74.

Earlier this week, Jed came back to celebrate his 75th birthday by climbing the Grand Teton. He wanted to warm up a bit so he headed to our practice area at Hidden Falls with the legendary Jack Tackle.

On Sunday, he reached the summit of the Grand Teton with Lead Guide and Exum President, Nat Patridge. Climbing the Grand Teton is a notable accomplishment for anyone. Climbing it at 75 gives Jed lifetime bragging rights.

Jed sent us a message today to say thanks, but really we have much more to thank Jed for – his leadership as we took over the management of Exum, his unequaled knowledge and experience in the field of risk management, his unmatched humor… and so much more.

Thank You Jed, and congratulations on a summit well earned!
