Exum Lower Saddle Hut Going Up

Exum Lower Saddle Hut Going Up

May 24, 2008

By John Clegg

Exum’s Lower Saddle Hut is scheduled to be setup early June. The hut serves as primary staging grounds for Exum’s two-day ascent of The Grand, as well as camp for most Teton traverses.

Exum Guide Rod Newcomb will lead a team to the Lower Saddle in the next couple of weeks to dig out and reassemble the hut. The shelter, which is dismantled and stored in-place each fall, should be a challenge this year due to near record snowfall in the range. Rod’s team will leave the valley floor in the pre-dawn and hike from 6700 feet to the Saddle at 11,620 feet. Once there, they’ll dig out, assemble and return to the valley, all in a day’s work.

Keep checking our site. We’ll post notice once it’s up.
