Climbs in Yosemite, western U.S. Alaska, South America. Ski traverses and descents in Alps, Tetons, Cascades, Canadian Rockies and Sierras. First ascents in Yosemite, High Sierras, Tetons and Cuba.
Dave learned to climb via classes at Exum in 1977 that led to his first ascent of the Grand Teton the following year. He attended Fresno State University chosen to allow frequent climbing in Yosemite where he developed his big wall climbing with ascents of: El Capitan, Half Dome, The Leaning Tower, Mt. Watkins and Washington’s Column. Dave began guiding with Exum in 1999 and has also guided rock climbing, mountaineering and backcountry skiing in the Sierras and the Cascades. Having made his home in Jackson his year round work in the mountains includes ski instruction, avalanche education and ski patrolling at Snow King Mountain. Dave also teaches photography and image processing courses for the Art Association of Jackson Hole with a personal interest in nature and wildlife photography.
Even after four decades of mountain travel and celebrating my 40th anniversary climb up the Exum Ridge in September of 2018, there’s always another climbing area to visit, a mountain to climb, a slope to ski or a backcountry area to simply explore.
