Bethanie grew up climbing in the Tetons with her father, also an Exum guide. She first climbed the Grand when she was 11 and for her 15th birthday climbed the Grand Traverse. Bethanie has since spent her free time climbing in the Tetons, the Winds, Red Rock, Moab, Vedauwoo, Yosemite and many other areas around the West. Bethanie is currently attending the University of Wyoming with a major in art. She works for the University of Wyoming Outdoor Program, leading climbing, technical clinics, crevasse rescue, canyoneering, backcountry skiing, mountain biking, backpacking and canoe trips. Bethanie has also volunteered with the mountaineering clubs for both the middle school and high school in Jackson, WY. In addition to her climbing background, Bethanie was a manager and rescue guide at the Treetop Adventure Park at Snow King, worked as a guide for the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Via Ferrata, and works as a ski instructor in the winter.
Bethanie is a licensed Basic and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) at the Wyoming State and National Registry level. Bethanie also has her Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS). She has completed her AMGA Rock Guide Course and is working towards her Alpine coursework.
In addition to climbing, Bethanie loves working with kids and is known for being patient, kind, and energetic. While in school in Laramie, Bethanie worked for an afterschool kids program where she taught art lessons to children in 3rd through 6th grade. Bethanie’s passion for climbing and other adventures is infectious and she looks forward to sharing her passion as a guide for Exum.
