Kevin Mahoney teaching. Photo: Exum CollectionThe American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) has announced that a prestigious President’s Award will be presented to Exum Senior Guide Kevin Mahoney. Kevin has been an Exum Guide for 12 years. In addition to his guiding, he often leads a portion of Exum’s internal training sessions. He has been on numerous expeditions, and is famous for his severe and committed alpine routes. In 2004, he was nominated for what is usually considered the climbing world’s top prize, the Piolet d’ Or.

In announcing the President’s Award, the AMGA wrote:

“Kevin Mahoney, 38, has climbed for 16 years and has been a guide for 12 years. Climbing has taken him to five continents in search of the most challenging and exhilerating peaks in the world. Mahoney curretnly resides in his hometown of Madison, New Hampshire, with his wife Claire and daughters, Annika and Eliza. Mahoney is a UIAGM-certified mountain guide (UIAGM is the International Mountain Guides Association), having earned his American Mountain Guide Association Rock, Alpine and Ski Guide certifications.”
