I began climbing at a very early age, since my father was a climber and a mountain guide. I spent my childhood roaming around the Tetons and the San Juan Range of southern Colorado. I decided that I was most interested in spending my time exploring remote corners of fantastic mountain ranges. While I attended Montana State University in Bozeman I studied education and honed my ice climbing technique. I spent several years traveling and climbing, that combined with my interested in education led to a natural transition into the guiding world. During the spring and early summer I work for Alaska Mountaineering School as guide on Denali and in the late summer and fall I guide for Exum Mountain Guides. I have attended the Khumbu Climbing Center in Nepal as a lead instructor. The goal of this center is to increase the safety margin of high altitude workers in the Himalaya through rescue techniques, technical climbing and rope handling skills.
