Where does someone who owns an adventure travel company go when they want an adventure beyond what their own company can provide? The answer is obvious: they come to Wyoming and climb the Grand Teton with Exum Mountain Guides!
Dan Austin is a co-owner of Austin-Lehman Adventures, rated the #1 Tour Operator in the World by Travel and Leisure Magazine. Austin-Lehman specializes in “soft” adventure vacations, and Dan was looking for something a little more than soft. He called us in December and signed up to climb the Grand Teton this summer with his daughter Kasey. We are honored that they chose to climb with Exum, and we decided that it would be fun to follow their adventure on our Web site. Dan is posting entries on the Austin-Lehman blog, and we will provide a link each time he posts, following the father/daughter team as they train and prepare for their climb. Next July we will add updates when they complete the climbing schools and, the “grand finale”—their ascent of the Grand.
Dan is 53 years old and his daughter Kasey is 20. They are both active and physically fit, but Dan has never done any rock climbing or mountaineering before. Like most of the individuals that come to climb with Exum, he is a bit apprehensive about the challenge ahead. At the same time he eagerly anticipates the thrill of standing on the summit of the Grand Teton.
Just about anyone who is healthy and willing to put in a little training time can climb the Grand Teton with us. Two days of preparatory instruction precedes the two-day climb, and while physically challenging, the climb is not technically difficult. More information can be found on the Grand Teton program page.
You can read Dan’s first blog entry by clicking on the following link. Then stay tuned as we provide new links on a monthly basis to track his training and the climb. We’ll be sending a photographer along so that we can share his adventure with you.
